Clash of the Titans (2010)
Demigod Perseus (Sam Worthington) meets Zeus (Liam Neeson) and Hades (Ralph Fiennes), with computer-generated creatures replacing the stop-motion models from the 1981 original. Blu-ray bonuses include a wisely discarded ending that is confrontational where the real ending is friendly, and a picture-in-picture look behind the scenes. "You're in this crazy armour that we can barely move in," Fiennes says, "so there's a point when we can crack up laughing, because in the end there is a funny side to these grown men dressed up as gods."
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000)
Beyond the martial arts, the great cast (Chow Yun Fat, Michelle Yeoh and Zhang Ziyi) and the romance of this epic set in 19th-century China, this is a two-hour feast for the eyes. In a new, mainly technical commentary, director of photography Peter Pau says the first thing director Ang Lee told him when they met in Beijing before filming was that it had been Lee's dream since childhood to make characters fly over the rooftops. The supporting wires were erased in post-production, and that, says Pau, was pretty well the only computer effect the budget allowed.
