This video caught my eye: An AP tech writer gets out a boxcutter and slices up a 1913 edition of Grimm's Fairy Tales in order to demonstrate the capacity of a scanner he is demonstrating. His goal is to scan the book and put it on his iPad.
He hacks away at the book, scans in the pages and then displays it on his iPad -- which he first places inside the sorry husk that is the eviscerated book cover! Heartless bastard!!
To add insult to injury, he then admits that slicing up a book to scan it into an iPad is not without sacrifice: "The old book is dead," he declares.
Surely a more unintentionally apt metaphor for the blind faith many place in technology will be difficult to find.
