Celine Dion and husband Ren Angelil.

Canadian songstress Celine Dion has given birth to premature but healthy twin boys at a Florida hospital.

A statement released from St. Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Fla., says the superstar singer delivered the boys Saturday afternoon.

The hospital says one boy weighed 5 pounds, 10 ounces, while the other weighed 5 pounds, 4 ounces.

Dion's husband, René Angelil, expressed his joy at a press conference a few hours after the births, saying he cut both umbilical cords.

He said he hoped to provide "all the love" he could to both boys for as long as he could.

Dion's obstetrician, Ronald Ackerman, said the singer and her husband were two of "the most caring and kind individuals" that the hospital has looked after.

Dion was hospitalized earlier this week after displaying signs of early child birth. She was in her 35th week of pregnancy.

Dion and Angelil are already the parents of 9-year-old René Charles.

The couple have tried for years to have more children.
