This is a modest film in which a group of mostly telegenic friends reunite for a trip to the cottage. No cell service , naturally. What is out there in the woods? Should they be scared? Absolutely, yet what is frightening is not an ax-wielding drifter, but the daunting prospects of (delayed) adulthood.
People Hold On has characters, mostly 27 years old, with tangled romantic pasts and unsure futures.
The script was co-written by one of the actors (Degrassi: The Next Generation's Paula Brancati), but there's a natural, improvised feel. The so-so ending is abrupt – what happens to these people? We don't know and they don't know, which, of course, is exactly the point.
