You Might as Well Live (2007)

Simon Ennis's low-budget dark comedy practically begs for cult status (shades of Napoleon Dynamite). Nerdy, naive, suicidal Robert Mutt (co-writer Josh Pearce) is universally ridiculed in his town of Riverside (filmed in Hamilton). His Candide-like journey involves a washed-up baseball hero (Michael Madsen), two comatose women, gross-out jokes and a game cast that includes Stephen McHattie and Liane Balaban ("Why is it every time I meet a guy I like he doesn't want to blow up City Hall with me?").

Coco Before Chanel (2009)

Everywhere you turn, there's the great fashion designer - played by Anna Mouglalis in Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky, by both Shirley MacLaine and Barbora Bobulova in the TV movie Coco Chanel, and by Audrey Tautou in this tale of how Coco became Chanel, with her emphasis on elegant and comfortable couture. The Globe's three-star review found Tautou a "consistent delight to watch. … Her dark, penetrating eyes are constantly scanning the surface of things, observing all and missing nothing."
