The Ghost Writer (2010)

In Europe, the movie bore the name of Robert Harris's source novel, The Ghost, but North Americans clearly needed a hint that it wasn't about haunted houses. While still under arrest in Switzerland, Roman Polanski directed this suspenseful film about a writer (Ewan McGregor) who isn't sure why the last guy to try ghost-writing the memoirs of a Tony-Blair-like former prime minister (Pierce Brosnan) died. Bonuses include a pre-liberty interview with Polanski about making the film and a chat with Harris about real-life parallels.

The Kim Novak Collection (1955-58)

Columbia studio boss Harry Cohn made Kim Novak a star more for her stunning good looks than for her acting ability, but she persevered. Along with the musical Pal Joey and the lusty drama Picnic, this set includes two new-to-DVD dramas - Middle of the Night and Jeanne Engels - and, my favourite, the romantic comedy Bell, Book and Candle, with Novak as a witch opposite James Stewart and a supporting cast to die for: Ernie Kovacs, Jack Lemmon, Hermione Gingold and Elsa Lanchester. Novak is interviewed, but is seen only in distant shots.
