Down in the Flood by the Derek Trucks Band, found on Metacafe

Possibly the best improvising outfit in rock, the Derek Trucks band plays blues like Sonny Rollins plays jazz - effortlessly, fluently and with a constant sense of discovery. This version of Bob Dylan's great blues, Down in the Flood, is just one of the highlights from the double-CD live set, Roadsongs.

Shutterbug by Big Boi, found on YouTube

"Years in the making" is not a promotional phrase typically applied to rap albums, but it would certainly fit in the case of Big Boi's Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty. After three years of promises and as many teaser singles, the album finally sees the light of day this week. And though the current single, Shutterbug, may seem a bit old school, any track that cops Soul II Soul's Back to Life can't be all bad.

Surrender (Live at Budokan) by Cheap Trick, found on YouTube

For years, "big in Japan" was a rock 'n' roll in-joke, laughing at an act's lack of popularity at home. Then Cheap Trick, who really were big in Japan, released Live at Budokan, and became big everywhere else. The album's latest reissue package augments the music with a full-length DVD, so we can all sit in the living room and pretend to be 13-year-old Japanese girls screaming our heads off.

Excerpt from untitled improvisation by Laurie Anderson, Lou Reed and John Zorn, found on YouTube

A short clip showing one of the prettier moments from the weekend's now-notorious concert at the Festival de Jazz International de Montréal. Almost makes you wonder why people got so upset.
