Lost August

  • Lisa Bozikovic
  • Independent

The beautiful and serene album called Lost August sounds like November, in the best connotation of that grey-sky month. Ontario singer-songwriter Lisa Bozikovic, with co-producer Sandro Perri, makes carefully arranged music that is artistically focused, her lilting Alela Diane-like voice and wintry lyrical themes showing through - often on sombre ballads, though the pop-rock of Take and Take , with its juicy-fruit Wurlitzer layer, provides needed variety. A pair of short, stunning pieces open and close this debut album: The Letting Go is an organ-drenched hymn and anxiety remedy, and the rich piano notes and lush backing vocals of Grateful accompany a singer who is "grateful to hear your song in my head, grateful to lie all day in this bed." Right back at you, Lisa Bozikovic, right back at you.
