Vancouver Opera's production of Nixon in China will be mounted by two American opera companies during their 2011-2012 seasons. San Francisco Opera will stage the John Adams opera in June 2012. And the Lyric Opera of Kansas City will present the VO production in its inaugural season at the new Moshe Safdie-designed Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.

"I'm thrilled," said James Wright, VO's General Director. "[San Francisco Opera]is the second-largest opera company in North America."

The San Francisco production will employ VO's director, designer, video designer, sets, costumes, and choreography.

"It's a morale booster, that's for sure," said Wright. "An ego-booster for this company, I should say. There'll be a little money, too."

Wright said the two rentals should add up to "several tens of thousands" to go against the $1.4-million it cost for VO to create the work, which had its world premiere last March in Vancouver during the Cultural Olympiad.

"It's a great lift to us," Wright continued. "A real validation of the kind of work our artistic department's doing."
