They don't want to hurt her any more, they think you should tell her, and they want to know how it feels. No doubt about it, the music of Zeus is all about trying to be a sensitive guy, albeit one who can kick up some garage commotion when needed. The Toronto band's debut album has plenty of solid songwriting on it, though a few of these tunes may force you to think of a certain Liverpool quartet. The sweaty, cramped sounding vocal in You Gotta Tell 'Er is more in line with the Strokes' sound a decade ago, while the genial patter-pop of At the Risk of Repeating mixes Harry Nilsson with a dollop of George Harrison. Here's hoping the second record shows a little less borrowing and a bit more synthesis.
