Guitarist Noel Gallagher of the English rock group Oasis was attacked while playing on stage Sunday evening at Toronto Island Park.
Oasis was midway through its headlining set at this year's Virgin Festival when a man rushed the band from the side of the back-stage area and pushed Gallagher during the 1995 hit Morning Glory.
Security personal apprehended an unnamed intruder who was later charged with assault.
After a short break, Oasis did return to the stage to complete the concert, performing wistful hits Don't Look Back in Anger and Wonderwall and three other songs before finishing with the Beatles' I Am the Walrus.
However, the mood of the performance and of the crowd was notably subdued upon the show's resumption.
The interrupted concert was an unfortunate finale to a two-day festival that drew some 40,000 music fans to see acts such as Foo Fighters, Paul Weller, Stereophonics and Bloc Party.
Oasis plays the final concert of its recent string of Canadian dates in London, Ont., on Sept. 9.
Daniel Sullivan, 47, faces one count of assault and has been released from custody on a promise to appear in court on Oct. 24, Toronto police said.
