Meat Loaf might soon be on the menu at American Idol.

The Dallas rocker is dropping hints that he'll replace Simon Cowell on the 10th season of the hit television show.

During a recent interview, the 62-year-old said he has a major project on the horizon that he "can't talk about."

"I can give you some clues," he said. "I am excited about it because I do watch it, and people love it, and I think I'm smarter than anybody they've ever had on, creatively. There you go."

The pop culture world has been abuzz in recent weeks on who will take the crusty Cowell's Idol seat. Harry Connick Jr., Donald Trump, Chris Isaak and Bret Michaels have been mentioned as possibilities.

Meat Loaf has appeared on the show before and the Bat Out of Hell rocker sang a duet with season five runner-up Katharine McPhee.

He's also friends with current Idol judge Kara DioGuardi. She sang a duet on his new album, Hang Cool Teddy Bear, and co-wrote another track.
