THE GALAS

A conservative lawyer, played by Catherine Keener, splits from her husband and diverges from her everyday life in Peace, Love and Misunderstanding. Keener's character decides to take her two children to meet their eccentric and estranged grandmother, played by Jane Fonda, whom she hasn't seen for 20 years. Elizabeth Olsen and Chace Crawford also star in the film. The gala is at Roy Thomson Hall on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

Ty Burrell plays a butter carver known as "the Elvis of butter" who took the pastime to a new, artistic level with the support of his wife, played by Jennifer Garner, in Butter. His wife's dreams of glory are ruined when he announces his retirement so she takes up butter carving herself. Also appearing in the film are Olivia Wilde, Ashley Greene, Hugh Jackman, Alicia Silverstone and Yara Shahidi. The gala is at Roy Thomson Hall on Tuesday at 9:30 p.m .

THE EVENTS

Each year TIFF's City to City focuses on filmmakers from a different city, and this year it's Buenos Aires. Along with the 10 feature films that will be showcased in the program is this panel. Argentine directors attending are Roman Cardenas, Santiago Mitre, Alison Murray, Hugo Santiago, Carlos Sorin and Pablo Trapero. The event is free and will be moderated by TIFF co-director Cameron Bailey at TIFF Bell Lightbox 3 on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

Three-hour segments of The Story of Film: An Odyssey – a whopping 15-hour documentary about films from the silent era to the digital age – will be shown for free each day this week. The movie about the movies is an adaptation of filmmaker and historian Mark Cousins's book. The three-hour segments will be shown at the Art Gallery of Ontario's Jackman Hall, Monday through Friday, starting at 10 a.m.; and the first and second halves of the film will be shown Saturday and Sunday at TIFF Bell Lightbox 4, starting at 9:15 a.m.

THE PARTIES

A Moth Diaries cocktail party will be hosted by Harry Rosen before the film's premiere. Celebs, including Scott Speedman, Lily Cole, Sarah Bolger and Sarah Gadon, will walk the invitation-only party's red carpet at Harry Rosen (82 Bloor St. W.) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The South by Southwest Film Conference and Festival is hosting a TIFF party with cocktails and karaoke. SXSW is based in Austin, so there could be some Texans at the invitation-only party at Gabby's (309 King St. W), Tuesday at 10 p.m.
