Bianca Thompson

Born and raised in Toronto, Bianca Thompson is a journalist and creative storyteller whose work explores lived experiences, challenges, and defining moments that resonate with readers.
As the Canadian Journalism Foundation Black Fellow at The Globe and Mail, she contributes to the Report on Business section, where she strives to find the human pulse in stories related to business, personal finance and everyday life. Her bylines also appear in Complex Canada, where she wrote across beats spanning sports, music, daily news and Canadian pop culture.
Bianca’s work is rooted in leaving a lasting impact and giving voice to those often unheard. Her background in poetry gives her a unique lens, crafting stories that are not only read, but felt.
Why did you become a journalist?
I chose journalism because I rarely saw people who look like me in the newsroom, and it made me think about the kinds of stories we tell vs. the stories that go unnoticed because certain communities are overlooked. My passion for writing is what led me down this career path. I believe words are magic and that they have the power to change lives. I wanted to be one of those changemakers.
