Legacy donors and other supporters of NCC are contributing to creation of nature-based solutions to protect the future of Canada’s critical habitats and wildlife species.NCC
Supporters who make a gift in their will to the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) become members of the Nature Legacy Society – a growing community of nature lovers helping to change the future for critical habitats and wildlife across Canada.
Through their legacy donations – whether through wills or other mechanisms – supporters ensure that NCC will have the resources to continue its bold conservation initiatives in the years ahead, acts of generosity that have yielded powerful results over the past six decades, since NCC was founded.
“Members of the Nature Legacy Society, together with donors and partners, make it possible for the Nature Conservancy of Canada to accelerate the pace of conservation and significantly expand our impact,” says Catherine Grenier, president and CEO of NCC. “Amplifying our results – ensuring that conservation happens faster and endures for generations – is essential as we work to address the twin crises of climate change and biodiversity loss.”
Increasing nature’s resilience yields long-term benefits
NCC draws on decades of experience and ongoing research in conservation science and technology to deliver proven nature-based solutions: protecting habitats, restoring ecosystems and connecting landscapes.
“Every forest, wetland and grassland we protect today becomes a sanctuary for tomorrow,” says Ms. Grenier. “And our legacy donors are helping us to think beyond the immediate and invest in the long term.”
Nature faces unprecedented pressures; however, NCC recognizes that nature isn’t just what we’re fighting to save – it’s our most powerful ally in the fight. By increasing nature’s resilience, we are supporting the recovery of ecosystems and reducing biodiversity loss.
NCC: A key partner in reaching national and international conservation targets
Canada has adopted ambitious targets to contribute to global efforts to protect the planet in the face of rapid biodiversity loss and climate change.
The federal government has set the goal of conserving 30 per cent of Canada’s lands and waters by 2030, fulfilling Canada’s commitment made alongside other nations at the historic Kunming-Montréal Global Biodiversity Framework at COP15.
The 30x30 initiative requires collaboration from stakeholders across Canadian society, and NCC is a key partner in achieving this national target.
NCC works hand in hand with all levels of government, conservation groups, Indigenous Nations and communities, corporations, foundations and individual supporters to deliver nature-based solutions at a scale unmatched in Canada.
NCC’s goals complement Canada’s broader conservation objectives.

LEGACY GIFTS TO SUIT ALL NEEDS
Many legacy gifts to NCC are made through a gift in a will, although contributions of life insurance or retirement assets (RRSPs/RRIFs) are also becoming more common among Nature Legacy Society members. Supporters may choose to donate their land directly to NCC.
Many Canadians have made the decision to translate their values into a lasting gift for conservation. By investing in nature through a legacy gift, these donors join a community that believes in protecting Canada’s natural habitats forever.
