Climate tech developer Carbon Upcycling has named Markus Kritzler as chief executive officer, allowing prominent co-founder and current CEO Apoorv Sinha to concentrate on investor relations and long-term strategy as president, the company said on Tuesday.

Mr. Kritzler joined Calgary-based Carbon Upcycling Technologies last year as chief revenue officer. He had previously been head of group strategy at Holcim Group, where he managed strategic projects in North America, Latin America, Asia Pacific, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. He played a key role in the multibillion-dollar merger of global building materials companies Holcim and Lafarge. After leaving the Swiss-based company, he was managing director at 414 Capital and Ingenia Capital.

Carbon Upcycling captures CO2 and other industrial waste materials and transforms them into low-carbon cement ingredients. Last year, it broke ground on its first commercial project at the Ash Grove Mississauga Cement Plant in Ontario. It also raised $18-million in a funding round led by Builders Vision.

In a statement, Mr. Sinha said the executive change at the company is a natural evolution as it shifts from proving its technology to delivering products.
