Community organizations in Montreal say Canada is censoring a French-Palestinian member of the European Parliament, Rima Hassan, by preventing her from entering the country.

Alternatives, Independent Jewish Voices and The Quebec Doctors Against Genocide had invited Hassan to speak at two conferences in Montreal.

One conference was about anti-fascism and the rise of the far right, and the other on pro-Palestinian advocacy.

Hassan said she had obtained an electronic travel authorization.

European Parliament member says she was denied entry to Canada due to pro-Palestinian views

But she said she cancelled her trip prior to boarding her flight to Montreal when Canadian authorities asked her to submit a new list of documents and information.

Immigration Canada declined to comment, citing privacy and security issues.

Jewish human rights group B’nai Brith Canada said it sent information to Canadian authorities about Hassan and thanked the government for taking action.
