New: Recovery effort under way after construction accident killed two workers in London, Ont.

Recovery efforts are under way at the scene of a partial building collapse in London, Ont.

City officials confirm two people died in Friday’s construction mishap, with one body still trapped in the rubble.

They say first responders have to make sure the structure is safe before they can recover the body.

The second victim had already been taken from the scene.

In addition to the two fatalities, four others needed hospital treatment and another worker was slightly hurt.

It’s not clear why part of the four-storey building collapsed.

London Mayor Ed Holder called it a “difficult day,” and thanked first responders for their efforts.

“The community joins me in expressing our deepest condolences to the families of the two people who lost their lives,” Holder said in a statement.
