Halifax police and volunteer search crews continued searching Sunday for a missing newborn after a woman who appeared to have just given birth showed up the night before at a local hospital.

Halifax Regional Police were alerted at 9:40 p.m., and investigators later described the woman’s condition as life-threatening.

Meanwhile, police confirmed that four people were taken into custody for questioning, but there was no indication that charges had been laid by Sunday afternoon.

Initially, the search for the newborn was concentrated around a residence at 214 Willett St. in the city’s west end, but there were reports the search had expanded on Sunday.

Police were asking people to stay away from the area.

As well, they were asking people to search their own properties and report anything suspicious.
