A veteran Regina police officer is charged with breach of trust and unauthorized use of a computer for allegedly using internal police databases to pursue personal relationships.

Regina police say Sgt. Robert Eric Semenchuck was arrested and charged on Tuesday after an “extensive police investigation.” Police say the allegations were brought to police in early 2023 by a member of the public, at which time Mr. Semenchuck was suspended and lost access to the databases.

Police did not release any additional information about the allegations, but Regina Police Chief Farooq Sheikh is slated to hold a press conference about the charges on Thursday.

Mr. Semenchuck grew up in Regina but began his career with the Calgary Police Service. He served there for five years, before moving back to Saskatchewan to join the Regina Police Service in early 2003.

Mr. Semenchuck was promoted to Sargeant in 2014, and received the Police Exemplary Service Medal from the Governor General in 2018. At the time, then-Regina Police Chief Evan Bray said the medal was awarded for 20 years of service characterized by “good conduct, industry and efficiency that serves as a model for others.”

Police released a photo of Mr. Semenchuck with news of his charges, and are asking anyone with additional information to contact the Professional Standards Section. He is slated to appear in court in Regina on April 22.
