RCMP say a suspect in a fatal shooting in a town northwest of Saskatoon is believed to be dead.
They say a man’s body has been found inside a home in Langham, Sask., which had earlier been on fire.
Mounties say they cannot confirm the man’s identity but believe he is Justin Heimbecker.
Heimbecker was named a suspect in an early morning shooting that had left one person dead.
RCMP issued a dangerous person alert and asked people in and around Langham, a community of 1,500, to stay home and lock their doors and also told drivers not to pick up hitchhikers.
They say there is no further risk to public safety and have cancelled the alert.
“Everybody here is wondering what’s happening,” Langham Coun. Carol Epp said on Friday.
She said residents in the area received an alert on their phones to shelter in place. Saskatchewan issued the emergency alert at 7:40 a.m.
“We haven’t left the house. We see flashing lights and police cars going back and forth,” she said. “I just hope everyone is OK.”
