A series of violent events that sent two men to hospital has been linked to gang activity by police in Surrey, B.C.

RCMP say officers responded to reports of shots fired Monday night in Surrey’s Guildford neighbourhood.

Just minutes later, officers were alerted to a multi-vehicle crash just a few kilometres away.

A man with gunshot wounds was found at the crash scene.

A second man was seriously injured in the crash, which sent a Dodge Charger careening into a house while a Honda Civic rammed a parked vehicle.

Three other men were located at or near the collision and an RCMP news release says those men along with the two injured men are detained, while firearms have been located and seized.

“The investigation is still in its early stages, but initial indications are that this is a targeted incident related to the ongoing Lower Mainland gang conflict,” the release says.

Police say there was a risk to public safety as the events unfolded on Monday night, however there are no indications of a continued risk.
