Currie Dixon has been sworn in as the Yukon’s next premier.

Dixon’s Yukon Party won 14 of 21 seats in the territory’s legislative assembly in the Nov. 3 election, which saw the previously governing Liberals reduced to one seat.

The Yukon NDP forms the official Opposition with six seats.

Dixon is the first premier born in the Yukon.

The swearing-in ceremony on Saturday also saw him unveil his eight-member cabinet, which includes a combination of former ministers from the last time the Yukon Party was in power, and new faces.

Dixon will also be minister of finance.

He says in a statement that the ministers each bring deep experience and a real passion for the territory.
