As 2025 comes to a close, it’s time to take a look back at the best the year had to offer. Our culture critics have compiled lists of the best films, television, albums, songs, concerts, theatre shows and visuals arts they believe will – and should – stand the test of time.

The best movies, TV shows, music and more from 2025

Our writers highlighted films such as One Battle After Another and Marty Supreme, albums by Geese and Hayley Williams, and television shows like Adolescence and The Pitt as contenders for the year, among many others.

But the 365 days of 2025 isn’t enough to watch every movie, or watch every TV show (trust us, we’ve tried), which means that every Canadian has their own thoughts on what was worth their time this year.

Film editor Barry Hertz, television critic J. Kelly Nestruck and arts reporter Josh O’Kane answered reader questions on the best music, film and TV of the year, what we could be looking forward to in 2026 and what readers thought should have been on their lists.
