This adaptation of novelist Anthony Horowitz’s third and final instalment in his Susan Ryeland mystery series debuts this Sunday, complementing the previous Masterpiece takes on Magpie Murders and Moonflower Murders. Lesley Manville returns as Susan and Tim McMullan reprises his role as Atticus Pünd for the six weekly episodes, set to conclude on Oct. 11. In the clever story-within-a-story setup, editor Susan is hired to work on a new novel in the Atticus Pünd series, only to become a suspect in an actual murder case. As for Pünd, the story places him on the Isle of Corfu where he too is involved in a murder. There’s a reason these series have been dubbed cozy murder mysteries by critics and fans alike, and this final chapter doesn’t disappoint.
The Gentlemen (Season 2), Netflix

Two years after creator Guy Ritchie adapted his 2019 aristocratic gangster movie into a TV series comes the second season – and the announcement of a third. A year has passed since Eddie Horniman (Theo James) became the reluctant heir to his family’s estate, only to realize it was a secret marijuana farm. Now, Eddie is in Italy with Season 1 foe-turned-ally Susie Glass (Kaya Scodelario), where they’re determined to push their empire to the next level. Like the first season, this is a highly stylized series with lots of twists, picturesque sets and complicated relationships. Hugh Bonneville joins the cast of returning players, which includes Ray Winstone, Joely Richardson and Giancarlo Esposito.

Hockey season is quickly upon us and what better way to get back on the ice than with a new season of a show revolving around one of the original six teams, the Montreal Canadiens. The third season consists of a six-pack of episodes, the first two of which are currently streaming, with new episodes each week. Thanks to insider access to the dressing room and candid interviews with the players, the docuseries paints a picture of a team with heart and determination as they climb all the way to the 2025-26 Eastern Conference Final. It’s a must-watch for Habs fans and any spectator who wants to know more about what professional hockey players go through, from the victories and pressure to win to the personal toll a season can take.
The F Ward, CBC Gem

We’ve reached the unofficial last weekend of summer, so if you’re seeking a new fall watch and have a penchant for medical dramas, give this Australian series a look as it makes its Canadian premiere. The F Ward follows a group of interns at a hospital as they navigate their professional and personal lives. It’s a similar setup to Grey’s Anatomy, yet the tone here is lighter, with humour to lessen the melodrama. It hails from the same creators as Bump and isn’t as serious as The Pitt, which makes it an easy, albeit sometimes empty-calorie watch to have on in the background when the temperature starts to drop.
Family Matters, Paramount+
If you’re a millennial who misses the days of TGIF on ABC, you may be making plans to hunker down this weekend for a marathon of this classic sitcom. The entire series is now available to stream, so you can relive your days of impersonating Steve Urkel (Jaleel White) while recalling all of the adventures the Winslow family got up to in the 1990s. Sure, the series might not be as good as you remember, particularly as you get into the later seasons. But there’s still something fun about being able to go back and watch a TV series for what it was and pick up on the ways it changed the landscape, particularly by proving that a show about a Black middle-class family could achieve mainstream success.
