Man on the Run sheds light on a specific era in Paul McCartney’s career.Linda McCartney/Amazon Prime

Sir Paul McCartney and the Beatles are synonymous, but what’s less talked about is the musician’s decade with Wings and his career throughout the 1970s. This documentary, directed by Morgan Neville (Won’t You Be My Neighbor?), gives an intimate look at that time in McCartney’s life, from working with his wife, Linda McCartney, to his desire to prove the critics wrong.

While there’s not much new for those who are already familiar with his story, McCartney is an executive producer and offers new commentary on that era of his career. There is also comprehensive footage that paints the picture of a man looking to distinguish himself from the band that defined him, and a strong through-line of family, perseverance and love of music that will keep you hooked.

Alan Cumming is one of those rare talents that can appeal to theatre crowds (Cabaret), drama lovers (The Good Wife) and reality-TV addicts (The Traitors) alike. He has also got impeccable comedic timing, which he proved once again last summer during the Just For Laughs festival in Montreal.

The spectacle was filmed for Crave and is meant to evoke the cabaret nightlife scene, with a lineup of LGBTQ performers taking the stage. Watch for appearances by Canadians Mae Martin and Sabrina Jalees among others, and be prepared for a night of Cumming’s raunchier side as he bares it all for the live audience.

If you love Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan and other kaiju monster flicks, but have yet to check out Apple’s modern take on the genre, now is the time to start. The second season of the Monsterverse offering launches this weekend after a three-year hiatus.

The initial premise was set after the battle with Godzilla during the 2014 San Francisco attack, and follows a family uncovering their connection to the monster-fighting Monarch organization through two timelines. Kurt Russell and his son Wyatt Russell play the same character at different ages. In Season 2, there’s a new monster to fight: Titan X. Also fun for franchise fans is this season’s adventure to Skull Island, which lands the action right at a certain giant ape’s doorstep.

Jason Bateman might be an everyman, but he also embraces non-traditional projects more than most. From Arrested Development and Tropic Thunder to Ozark and Black Rabbit, the actor has a knack for picking critically beloved movies and shows. This HBO series may follow the same trajectory when it makes its debut on Sunday night.

DTF St. Louis is a dark comedy co-starring Bateman, Linda Cardellini and David Harbour in a midlife love triangle. The twist is that one of them winds up dead and the survivors must deal with the aftermath of their decisions – in particular, their use of the DTF St. Louis dating app.

Ghosts (Paramount+)

It’s hard to recreate British humour for a North American audience, particularly when Hollywood gets a hold of it. However, there are exceptions when a reimagined TV show has become a legendary part of a franchise, such as The Office, or Ghosts the American remake of a 2019 BBC One comedy.

The U.S. version returns this week with the midseason premiere of its fifth season, continuing the quirky but delightful story of a couple who move into a haunted house with all kinds of undead personalities. All four previous seasons are available to stream now on Paramount+; the show may quickly become your next feel-good binge.
