This Irish-Canadian co-production is back for a second, six-episode season of dysfunctional family antics. Real-life best friends Sarah Goldberg (Barry) and Susan Stanley are back as newly-discovered half-sisters Sare and Suze, alongside Donal Logue as their alcoholic Irish father. This time the action moves from Ireland to Canada as Sare plans her wedding, with a timely visit from Suze. As these sisters force each other to confront themselves and become better people, they inevitably begin to heal from their shared trauma. What follows is a dark comedy with plenty of physical moments to mine as these women figure out what their futures hold together.
Stranger Things: Tales from ’85, Netflix

The Duffer Brothers may have called it on the original Hawkins story of supernatural Demogorgons, mind flayers and Vecnas, but with a built-in audience, the Stranger Things universe is only just beginning its expansion. This animated story heads to 1985 winter in Indiana, where Eleven (Brooklyn Davey Norstedt) and her friends are back battling scary monsters. It’s a way to keep the characters alive for the fandom while tapping into the younger audience the original series attracted, with new mysteries and a voice cast to tide everyone over until the untitled live-action spinoff eventually makes its way to streaming.

Blue Bombers’ running back Brady Oliveira and former Bachelor contestant and realtor Alex Blumberg aren’t just one of Winnipeg’s biggest power couples: They’re also dog people. The couple spends their rare downtime racing around Manitoba rescuing homeless dogs before the brutal winter season. That means they have their own pack of pups at home, but it’s also a no-brainer situation for reality TV. And so, their 10-episode journey comes to streaming this week with stories of rescue and fostering, with heartwarming turns that will make you feel a little bit better for having watched.

A minotaur raised by humans heading out into the world to discover his mythical past? It’s the perfect blend of strange and fun for Apple TV+’s newest animated kids series. This cartoon is all about growing up and figuring out your place in the world alongside your chosen family, and learning what it means to find your home and the people who truly understand you. This series hails from two award-nominated entities, media company Dog Ears and animation studio Cartoon Saloon. As a plus, it teaches children more about the folklore and mythology behind such creatures. It also includes a star-studded voice cast (Brian Cox, Michael Sheen) that should equally entertain adults.
After the Flood S2, BritBox

BritBox now offers both seasons of this thriller starring Sophie Rundle (Peaky Blinders). The second season finds her newly promoted Detective Jo Marshall character hot on the trail of a murder, one that puts her at odds with some of the town’s power players. It isn’t ground breaking television but there’s solid acting and a compelling enough storyline to escape with. Like the first season, this show is as much about the town as it is the characters within it, with moody cinematography and a twisty storyline that’s the type of comfort viewing you want from such a detective drama.
