In the plethora of Marvel projects it’s easy to overlook another new series, but for those who love meta stories tinged with superhero comedy, Wonder Man is worth a pause. The series stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as aspiring Hollywood actor Simon Williams, who is suddenly embroiled in the world of heroes when he develops superpowers of his own. Ben Kingsley returns as Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Trevor Slattery to help Williams land his latest role. The actors’ chemistry and undeniable bromance is a great reason to watch, but this is also an entertaining and low-stakes story that doesn’t require mass MCU viewing or knowledge to fully enjoy.
