Maserati took the wraps off an all-new super sports car and convertible – the 2026 MCPURA coupe and MCPURA Cielo – at the annual Goodwood Festival of Speed in England on Thursday.

The MCPURA and MCPURA Cielo is the next-generation of the MC20 coupe and Cielo convertible, which Maserati launched in 2020. It’s hard to imagine, but the newest high-performance coupe and convertible are even more breathtaking in design and have added innovative technology.

If you want one, you’ll have to act fast. Even though Canada and the United States combined are the second-largest market for Maserati (behind the European Union), only 130 will be sold on this continent - 120 in the U.S. and 10 in Canada. Prices aren’t available, yet, but the entry-level trim for the current MC20 starts at $285,000 and the mid-range Cielo trim is $310,000.

“Five years ago we introduced the MC20 – a super car that would redefine the perception of Maserati. Designed by Centro Stile Maserati and built by our team in Modena, (Italy), it stood out globally for its purity of form,” said Klaus Busse, head of design at Maserati. “Today we evolve that beauty. It’s not a re-invention but an elevation,” he added during the virtual global reveal ahead of its public debut.

Both vehicles are stylish with sleek, aerodynamic design cues including functional air intakes on the front hood and the side panels. From the profile, it has a shark nose; while the rear has an available oversized spoiler. Butterfly doors are the piece de resistance – not only stunning but practical, making it easier to exit and enter the cabin. Both vehicles launch in a stunning colour called AI Aqua Rainbow – the coupe gets a matte finish; while the convertible gets a gloss finish. Ten colours are available including a striking new Devil Orange shade.

The MCPURA Cielo has some distinct features including a retractable electric glass roof that’s made of polymer dispersed liquid crystal glass. The glass can switch from opaque to transparent in one second with the push of a button – it’s designed to feel like you’re driving with the top down even when the roof is closed.

At the heart of the MCPURA coupe and convertible is a 621 horsepower, three-litre, twin-turbo V6 Nettuno engine with a patented pre-chamber combustion technology derived from Formula One. The engine is a carryover from the MC20 - it’s developed, designed and built entirely by Maserati in Modena.

The engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. There are five driving modes: Wet, GT, Sport, Corsa (race) and ESC Off. According to Maserati officials, it can hit 100 kilometres an hour in 2.9 seconds. It’s light-weight carbon-fibre body helps with the feat. The MCPURA weighs less than 1,500 kilograms.

With the butterfly doors open, you can spot Alcantara everywhere – on the seats with Maserati’s trident logo embossed on the headrests, door panels, dashboard and steering wheel. Alcantara is known for its soft texture and durability. Compared to traditional leather, it’s lighter which reduces the car’s weight. It also offers better grip of the wheel when driving fast and is more resistant to wear and tear, heat and UV exposure.

While there’s room for two, there’s not a lot of extra storage space inside the cabin. Likewise, trunk space is small – but that’s not surprising for a vehicle like this. It has 100 litres of rear trunk space and 50 litres in the front trunk.

The 2026 Maserati MCPURA and MCPURA Cielo are built at Maserati’s plant in Modena. Orders open Thursday with delivery expected later this year.
