Report on Business magazine hosted its second annual Economic Outlook event on December 1, to bring together economic and industry leaders, institutional investors, policy experts and Globe and Mail journalists to discuss indicators and tactics for the year ahead.

Andrew Saunders, president and CEO of The Globe and Mail opened the event before handing off to Matt Lundy, economics editor with The Globe and Mail. Mr. Lundy interviewed Jimmy Jean, vice-president, chief economist and strategist at Desjardins Group. The interview covered forces and factors shaping Canada’s economic and business performance for 2026.

Following the interview, Dawn Calleja, editor of Report on Business magazine moderated a panel of executive leaders sharing industry and sector specific views on risks and opportunities for 2026 and beyond. The panel included:

  • Ron Bedard, president and CEO of ArcelorMittal Dofasco;
  • Farhaz Thobani, president of Kyndryl Canada;
  • Jeremy Wilmot, CEO of Interac
  • Kim Thiara, president and CEO of AceTronic Industrial Controls Inc.

The discussions concluded with a look beyond 2026, to explore some of the longer-term trends and developments shaping Canada’s prosperity and resilience. David Moscrop, contributor and columnist for The Globe and Mail interviewed Denise Hearn, author, advisor and applied researcher.

John Landry, CEO of Peoples Group summarized the main takeaways from the event via remarks at the event conclusion.
