There's been another delay in setting a preliminary hearing date for a Calgary couple who police say contributed to their toddler son's death by failing to provide proper nutrition.

The Crown says lawyers for Jennifer Clark, who is 38, and Jeromie Clark, who is 34, have requested more time to examine evidence.

The parents were charged in December with criminal negligence causing death and failure to provide the necessities of life.

Their 14-month-old son, John, died the day after he was brought to a Calgary hospital in November 2013.

Police have said the child had a staph infection that was untreatable due to complications from malnutrition.

They said the family has strict dietary restrictions based on their faith and nutritional beliefs.

The case has been adjourned until March 6.
