Police in Edmonton have arrested a suspect in the death of a man who was trying to stop his work truck from being stolen.

Adam Groves, who was 33, was killed June 13 after he was hit by a driver who then fled the scene.

Officers investigating a call found an unconscious man passed out in a vehicle which they confirmed had been stolen.

Patrol members woke him up and he fled on foot, injuring himself when he broke through a glass patio door to get into a residential suite.

Police say the suspect broke into a second suite, stole some car keys and took off again before being tracked down and arrested.

Jonathan Jake Cardinal faces several charges, including manslaughter and criminal negligence causing death.

Police say additional charges are pending.
