A Calgary man is trying to recover medals that were awarded to his father for service in the Second World War.

Police say the medals were stolen from Pat Hartigan's home last month along with other property.

His father, Dan Hartigan, was a soldier with the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion during the war.

Hartigan jumped behind German lines in France with the unit the night before the D-Day invasion.

He died in 2001.

Pat Hartigan says the thief has desecrated the medals by stealing them. (CTV Calgary)
