A man is dead and four people were injured when a pickup smashed into the back of another pickup in a construction zone near Hinton, Alta.

RCMP say a contractor's truck with two workers inside was parked Sunday in a lane of Highway 16 clearly marked with construction signs.

The force of the crash pushed the truck into a ditch and it rolled.

Two women inside suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the second truck and a woman also suffered serious injuries and were transported to hospital in Edmonton.

A 25-year-old Grande Prairie, Alta., man was declared dead at the scene and a 10-month-old infant was checked in hospital for injuries and released to family.
