A teacher from the Elk Island Catholic School Division near Edmonton faces sex-related charges involving a female student.
RCMP say Brett Daniel Mittelsteadt of Strathcona County faces six counts that include sexual assault, sexual exploitation and committing a sexual offence against a child.
Police say they received a complaint on Monday about encounters that allegedly took place over 19 months ending last September.
Mittelsteadt has been released from custody with several conditions.
He is to appear in Sherwood Park provincial court on March 11.
