An Edmonton group that runs several venues, including the N-H-L arena Rexall Place, have laid off all of its parking cashiers.

Radio station CHED says an internal memo sent to employees of Northlands says two audits found "compelling evidence" that 12 to 19 per cent of parking transactions were kept by attendants.

In a statement, Northlands says that finding the culprits would cost the organization another $400,000, so instead they laid off all cashiers and supervisors — about 30 in total.

The employees did receive severance pay.

Northlands adds that it doesn't comment on current or former employees, and will not be giving any further statements or interviews.

Northlands is a non-profit organization that also includes Edmonton Expo Centre and Northlands Park Racetrack and Casino.
