Edmonton's medical examiner says a woman whose body was found bound and left in a shopping cart in an alley died of blunt force trauma.

The death of Andrea Marie Berg, 42, has been declared a homicide.

Officers made the discovery when they responded to a report early Tuesday.

Emergency responders were called to the scene and pronounced the woman dead.

Witnesses who live in the neighbourhood said at the time the woman's legs, arms and mouth were taped up and her face was bloody.
