A dangerous situation has been resolved inside the post office in the small Alberta town of Eckville.

On Thursday afternoon, RCMP were called to a report of a man causing a disturbance and refusing to leave the post office.

But when the officers decided to arrest the suspect, they say he put up a fight.

Sylvan Lake RCMP say the man managed to put one of the officers in a chokehold from behind, while punching the other officer in the head.

He's then accused of attempting to disarm the officers of their guns as the struggle wore on.

The suspect was finally subdued, however, with the help of other arriving officers.

The man was taken to Red Deer Regional Hospital for assessment.
