Olivia Anderson defended her 800 metre freestyle title on Thursday night at the Canadian Swimming Championships.

Anderson finished the race in eight minutes 41.27 seconds and was under 33 seconds on 12 of the 16 lengths.

"I've kind of been training right up to this, I've been swimming a lot on my own," said Anderson, who will represent Canada at the Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championship in Maui later in August.

"In the past, I have done well without a lot of rest. We wanted to go into it and see how close I could come to my best times. Considering how I was approaching it, I am quite happy with how it went."

Danica Ludlow took silver (8:45.00) while Sophia Saroukian (8:48.48) was third.

Peter Brothers won the men's 1,500 freestyle in 15:20.45 and Kelsey Wog edged out Ashley McGregor in the 200 breastroke by three-hundredths of a second.
