One person is dead and four others are injured after an overnight collision near Edmonton.

RCMP say a car failed to stop for a flashing red light at a Sherwood Park intersection shortly before 5:00 a.m. and was struck by a sport-utility vehicle.

One of three passengers in the car died at the scene, while the other two were taken to hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The driver of the car is also in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, but the SUV driver was treated at the scene.

No other details about the people involved have been released.

Police say road conditions and visibility were good at the time of the crash.
