Police say a small plane ended up on its roof during an emergency landing in southeast Calgary.

Police say they were alerted on Saturday morning about an ultralight plane that was experiencing engine problems.

They say the plane landed in a field in the Walden neighbourhood, which is on the southern edge of the city.

The pilot, a man in his 70s, was taken to hospital as a precaution.

The Transportation Safety Board is now handling the investigation.
