An 11-year-old girl is being treated in hospital for serious injuries after she was run over by an Edmonton Transit System bus.

Police say it appears the girl was trying to board the bus Tuesday morning as it pulled away from a marked stop, but got caught in the door.

Initial reports say it appears she was dragged a short distance but managed to free herself, but then the bus rolled over her leg.

Police say the girl's injuries appear to be non-life threatening.

The police Major Collision unit is investigating and says it is too soon to say if anyone will be charged.

Edmonton Transit says it is sorry to learn the child was hurt and it is working with police to determine what happened.
