Two women are dead and two boys are injured after their SUV was hit by a semi-truck at a highway intersection in east-central Alberta.

RCMP say a woman from Victoria and a woman from Niagara Falls, Ont., died Wednesday afternoon at the scene near Myrnam, about 180 kilometres east of Edmonton.

Two boys from Niagara Falls were hurt.

One was taken by air ambulance to Edmonton's Stollery Children's hospital in serious condition and another was taken to a hospital in Two Hills with non life-threatening injuries.

RCMP say their families have been notified and no names will be released.

Police say the truck driver wasn't hurt but a Border Collie named Oliver that was in one of the vehicles is missing and may have run away.
