A tanker hauling jet fuel is on fire after a collision on the Yellowhead Highway about 35 kilometres west of Edmonton.

RCMP Sgt. Jack Poitras says it isn't known yet if there are any injuries.

But he says there are a few houses in the general area, and those residents have been asked to evacuate in case the tanker explodes.

The highway is closed between Range Road 30 and Range Road 31.
