Early years: Born in Toronto, raised in Montreal. For more than 30 years, he has been an advocate on behalf of a wide range of environmental causes and has worked with the Conservation Council of New Brunswick.

Education: Has a bachelor of science in biology from McGill University and a diploma in pure and applied sciences from Vanier College in Montreal.

Political career: Worked for the federal Green party in several capacities before becoming the province's Green leader in September 2012.

Family: Married to Janice Harvey, the couple have two daughters, Caroline, 18, and Laura, 15.
