The RCMP say human remains have been recovered on sea ice near Natuashish in Labrador, but no identity has been confirmed.
The Mounties were notified at about 10:20 a.m. Wednesday that crew aboard an aircraft flying near Davis Inlet spotted what appeared to be a body on the ice.
Staff Sgt. Boyd Merrill confirmed Wednesday afternoon that the remains are human and were recovered by police about 18 kilometres southeast of Davis Inlet.
He said the medical examiner will complete an autopsy as early as Thursday in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, N.L.
Merrill said the family of James Poker, 17, has been notified that the remains were recovered, but that no identification has been confirmed.
The teen was reported missing from Natuashish on Feb. 16, prompting searchers to scour the region by air and on the ground for any sign of him.
