Sean Backman had two goals and Jean-Francois Berube made 19 saves as the Manchester Monarchs downed the host St. John's IceCaps 4-1 on Wednesday night in American Hockey League play.

Colin Miller had a goal and an assist for the Western Conference-leading Monarchs (37-15-7) while Justin Auger scored the other.

Ryan Olsen supplied the offence for the IceCaps (28-26-8), who got a 27-save outing from Peter Budaj.

Both clubs went 0-for-3 on the power play.
