The death of a 44-year-old man in Halifax in 2009 has been added to a provincial program that offers rewards for information on major unsolved crimes.

Halifax police say Timothy John Kelly died after he was shot multiple times and found on a sidewalk in front of a home on Abbot Drive on Dec. 12, 2009.

Chief Jean-Michel Blais says investigators are confident that people know what happened to Kelly and who is responsible for his death.

Blais says he hopes adding the case to Nova Scotia's Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes program will encourage someone to come forward with information.

The program was launched in 2006 and offers up to $150,000 to anyone with information that leads to arrests and convictions.

To qualify for a reward, people must provide their name and contact information and they may have to testify in court.

The provincial Justice Department says the reward program paid out its first cash reward last fall.

An unidentified tipster received $150,000 for providing information that led to the conviction of two men in the 2011 murder of Melissa Dawn Peacock.
