The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is investigating a fatal shooting at a hotel bar in St. John's.
Police say officers were called to King's Bridge Road just before midnight Saturday for an alleged weapons offence.
Marcel Etheridge, owner of the Captain's Quarters hotel where the shooting took place, says a man with a gun burst into the bar just before midnight and ordered the bartender to hand over cash.
Police say a man at the bar tried to intervene in the alleged robbery, but was shot by the suspect.
They say the man died in hospital Sunday as a result of his injuries.
Police have brought in a ground search team to look in an area around the hotel.
