Police in Newfoundland say they have arrested the driver of a car who allegedly dragged and injured a police officer as he was fleeing the scene of a break-and-enter.

Gordie Bishop was arrested Tuesday afternoon in the Freshwater Road area of St. John's.

He is also facing charges after an alleged break-in at Peter Easton's Pub last week.

Police allege that when Bishop tried to escape the scene, his vehicle dragged a female officer.

She was injured and is recovering from her wounds in hospital.

Bishop is facing charges of aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, assaulting a peace officer and breaking and entering.
